British actor who most notably played Captain George Mainwaring on the popular sitcom, Dad's Army, but was also Coronation Street. He was active in the British theater scene in the years leading up to the outbreak of World War II. Later, he rose to on-screen fame through playing Leonard Swindley on the hit series, Coronation Street.
