An American author of fiction for adults and children, he is most famous for his 1980 historical novel, Aztec. His other works include The Journeyer (1984) and Raptor (1992). He graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey. He published his first novel, The Terrible Teague Bunch, in 1975.
