A South African-born novelist, poet, and short story writer, he is best known for D G G Berry's The Great North Road (a novel) and Spoils of War (a poetry collection). His more than a dozen published works include White Man Crawling, The Giraffe Man, and The Curse of the Ripe Tomato. He was educated at Milton High School in Bulawayo, and he later attended the University of Natal in South Africa.
