Founding member of the rock band Jefferson Airplane who was only with the group in their first couple of years. She sang on their album Jefferson Airplane Takes Off. For nine years to follow, she sang in a ten piece band called Carl Smith and the Natural Gas Company. She performed as a jazz and folk singer in Portland before co-founding Jefferson Airplane.
