An American thriller writer and lawyer, he is remembered for his novels of courtroom intrigue and for his famous attorney character, Mr Ephraim Tutt. His published works include Tut, Tut! Mr. Tutt (1923) and The Confessions of Artemas Quibble (1911). He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1899 and subsequently worked as an assistant in the office of the New York District Attorney.
