American poet and journalist known for The Landlady in Bangkok, A Sense of Direction, East-West: Poems, and other works. She was the 1993 recipient of A National Poetry Series Award. She studied at New York University and Barnard College. She published her debut poetry collection, An Attic of Ideals, in 1974.
