Famous for her 1975 children's work Tuck Everlasting, this writer, illustrator, and 1982 Hans Christian Andersen Award nominee is also notable for her books Jack Plank Tells Tales (2007); Knee-Knock Rise (1970); and Nellie: A Cat on Her Own (1989). After studying art at Smith College in Massachusetts, she illustrated The Forty-ninth Magician, a children's work written by her husband.
