An American author of historical fiction, she is best known for The Song of Achilles, a love story between Achilles and Patroclus that is set in Ancient Greece. The work won the Orange Prize for Fiction. She earned a graduate degree in Classics from Brown University and subsequently taught high school classes in Greek, Latin, and English literature.
