Remembered for both his impressionistic landscapes and his expressionistic figure paintings, this acclaimed twentieth-century artist created such famous works as The Expulsion, Bathers Pulpit Rock, and the Nebuchadnezzar and Bride series. He dropped out of traditional school at the age of fourteen and trained through the night program at the National Gallery of Victoria's Art School.
