Famous as a singer and bassist with the post hardcore band Even If It Kills Me, Van Buer provided clean vocals on tracks such as "Sink or Swim" and "You Are a Lie," while her bandmate Josh Vogel was responsible for scream vocals. She, Vogel, and Scott Holmes began collaborating after finding each other on Craigslist. They released their debut album, Hope on the Horizon, in January of 2015.
