This Rhode Island Democrat and member of the Kennedy political family represented his state's first district in the United States Congress from 1995 until 2011. During his early years in the U.S. House of Representatives, he served as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. He attended Providence College and was elected at the age of twenty-one to the Rhode Island House of Representatives.
