Former British officer who was a Founding Father and one of the original Framers of the Constitution. He served South Carolina as its' Senator from 1789 to 1796 and then again from 1802 to 1804. He commanded a British army unit that fired the first shots in the Boston Massacre, but he came to the American side and helped organized South Carolina's defense.
