Jean Ray is a pseudonym of Belgian writer Raymundus Joannes de Kremer, who was known for his macabre tales. Ray's most famous works include Les Contes du Whisky, Le Grand Nocturne, and the Ghouls in my Grave series. He served a prison sentence for embezzlement. During his time behind bars, he wrote The Shadowy Street and The Mainz Psalter.
