Known for his use of wind instruments. His version of the British National Anthem was used for Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation. He served in the Field Artillery division during World War I and later the infantry. He was captured in 1917 and entertained the other POWs by making music with any instruments they could find around the prison camp.
