Distinguished Uruguayan novelist and short story writer who was associated with the Generation of '45. His famous works include Tierra de nadie (No Man's Land) and Para una tumba sin nombre (A Grave with No Name). He published his debut novel, El Pozo, when he was just thirty years old. Around this time, he also edited a Uruguayan newspaper called Marcha.
