Jamaican R&B and soul singer-songwriter who in addition to her eight UK charting singles between 1986 and 1995, including the track "I'd Rather Go Blind," achieved the rare feat for a British singer of reaching #1 on the US R&B chart with her song "It's Gonna Be Alright." She recorded with UB40 early in her music career and first signed as a solo artist with Jive Records. She was previously a backing vocalist on Culture Club's From Luxury to Heartache.
