A twentieth-century American science fiction and fantasy writer, he published thousands of short stories, hundreds of radio plays, and over ten screenplays. He won a Hugo Award for Exploration Team, a 1956 science fiction novella. He served in World War I with both the Committee of Public Information and the United States Army.
