American politician who served as Governor of Tennessee from 1923 to 1927. He was Tennessee's first post-Civil War governor to win three terms in a row, as well as the first to die in office. He studied at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
