First rose to fame as one of the founding members of the indie rock band Menomena. He then formed his side project Ramona Falls in 2009 which not long after became his main focus when he departed Menomena in 2011. Menomena formed in 2000 after he graduated from Dartmouth College and returned to Portland to work alongside his friends Danny Seim and Justin Harris.
