An American author of western fiction, he is known for his 1930 novel, Destry Rides Again, as well as for his Dr. Kildare series. He wrote over 500 novels in total. He attended the University of California-Berkeley, but dropped out of college to join the Canadian Army. Eventually, he settled in New York.
