Author who wrote the Father Brown mystery books and such Christian apologetic works as Orthodoxy (1908) and The Everlasting Man (1925). Over the course of his literary career, he wrote hundreds of poems, nearly one hundred fiction and non-fiction books, thousands of essays, and close to two hundred short stories. He attended the Slade School of Art at University College London, intending to become an illustrator. In the early 1900s, he began writing columns for both The Daily News and The Illustrated London News.
