Nineteenth-century Scottish poet remembered for his work in the English and Scots languages. His best-known works include Kincardineshire Traditions and Tales of the Glens: With Ballads and Songs. He began writing poetry at the age of fourteen and, around this time, worked as an assistant shopkeeper.
