Twentieth-century jazz trumpet player. His more than thirty-year career included performances with Jimmy Dorsey, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, and many other renowned musicians. He began playing the trumpet at the age of ten and later excelled in his music studies at Florida State University.
