Premier actor of his generation who starred in Pride and Prejudice and The Prince and the Showgirl. He won three Golden Globe Awards and as many BAFTA Awards, and received an honorary statuette and certificate from the Oscars for his performance in Hamlet. He was heavily involved in theatre during his youth, primarily performing Shakespearean roles.
