Communist revolutionary who led the Vi 't Minh independence movement which established the communist-ruled Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945. He was the prime minister from 1945 to 1955 and the president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam from 1945 to 1969. He worked as a cook's helper on a ship before sailing to America in 1911.
