Bio:

Major Nicaraguan poet, author, journalist, and 2006 recipient of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature. Her numerous literary works include Despierta, mi bien, despierta; Tunnel to Canto Grande; Sobrevivo; and Flowers from the Volcano. She studied at George Washington University after moving to the United States in the early 1940s.
