Best known for his chamber music and his works for larger ensembles. He founded the Brandeis Chamber Ensemble and served as pianist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1964 to 1965 during Erich Leinsdorf's tenure. He studied composition at both Harvard University and Yale University before going to Vienna on a Fulbright scholarship. His teachers included Walter Piston at Harvard and Paul Hindemith at Yale.
