After serving for more than a decade as Oregon Superintendent of Public Instruction, this Republican Party politician was elected to the Oregon State Senate as a representative of his state's twelfth district. Before beginning his careers in politics and education, he became a Colonel in the United States Army and earned degrees in education, administration, and management from Idaho State College; the University of Idaho; the University of Oregon; and the University of Portland.
