Known for his long tenure as mayor of Davao City in the Philippines of more than 20 years and 7 terms. He has earned the nickname of The Punisher, after the Marvel comics' anti-hero, for his controversial zero-tolerance law and order policy against criminals. He declared his 2016 presidential candidacy in the November 2015. He graduated from Lyceum of the Philippines University in 1968 with his bachelor's degree. Subsequently, in 1972, he obtained his law degree from San Beda College of Law.
