He portrayed Pi Patel in the adventure drama film, Life of Pi. His acting in the film earned him a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor and a Las Vegas Film Critics Society Award for Youth in Film. He studied philosophy at St. Stephen's College, Delhi of Delhi University.
