Famous for playing Sergeant George Miller on the ITV police drama Heartbeat, he is also notable for his portrayal of Douglas Taylor on the series WPC 56. For his starring role on To Serve Them All My Days, he won a TV Times Award. At the start of his television career, he appeared as John the Apostle in the Jesus of Nazareth miniseries of the late 1970s.
