Composer, conductor, teacher, and member of the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. He wrote over 400 pieces that were comprised of five operas, six symphonies, eight string quartets, 11 concerti, and many other works. He established the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra while serving in the U.S. Army from 1950 until 1952.
