Most famous for his 1920 science fiction work, A Voyage to Arcturus, this English-born Scottish author also published a metaphysical work titled The Haunted Woman and several other novels, including Sphinx and Devil's Tor. Unable to afford higher education, he worked for an insurance company known as Lloyd's of London. After serving in World War I, he devoted himself to a career as a writer.
