An English theologian, priest, and writer, he is known for his Christian-themed works. Also a mystery writer, he published such detective novels as The Viaduct Murder and The Three Taps. He became an Anglican priest in 1912 and was subsequently appointed Chaplain of Trinity College. Later, however, he converted to Roman Catholicism.
