Indian poet and Bollywood lyricist who is best known for his Urdu nazms and ghazals. He is perhaps most remembered for a 1973 poetic work entitled "Khaak-e-dil" (The Ashes of Heart). He attended Aligarh Muslim University. In 1949, he moved to Bombay to work as a film lyricist.
