New Zealand-born poet and editor known for The Inner Harbor, The Scenic Route, Dragon Talk, and other works. Her numerous literary honors include the New Zealand State Literary Fund Award and the United Kingdom's Cholmondeley Award. She graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a master's degree in Classics. She published her debut poetry collection, Eye of the Hurricane, in 1964.
