French academic scholar whose articles created much controversy for arguing that gas chambers did not exterminate Jews during WWII and that The Diary of Anne Frank and the accounts of Elle Wiesel are inauthentic. He worked as a professor of French literature at the University of Lyon from 1973 until 1990.
