Boxer and award-winning poet who wrote the collection of war poems "Walking Wounded" based on his experiences during World War II. In 1960, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was awarded the Cholmondeley Award for poetry in 1974. He enlisted in the army but deserted after V.E. Day and earned his living as a boxer while on the run.
