Remembered best for his three-decade career as an Outdoor Life magazine writer and editor, this hunting rifles expert and outdoor sporting enthusiast also penned such nonfiction works as The Art of Hunting Big Game in North America and Horse and Buggy West: A Boyhood on the Last Frontier. After briefly attending Arizona State University and the University of Arizona, he earned a degree in finance from the University of Arkansas and went on to receive a graduate degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.
