Pioneering composer who created sweeping orchestral works and combined them with the sound of electronic music. His most popular pieces included "Concerto for Brass and Orchestra" and "Ritual Observances." His talents as a jazz trumpeter were recognized early on, and he eventually earned a Doctorate of Music from Indiana University under the tutelage of the famous Bernard Heiden.
