Singer nicknamed "The Nightingale of Sri Lanka" and known for her 1938 recording of the popular song "Siri Buddhagaya Vihare." Also an actress, she appeared in numerous stage and screen productions. She started singing Christmas carols at the age of seven and, at around this time, performed the lead role in a play called The Shoemaker's Wife.
