African-American poet and publisher whose works include "The Ballad of Birmingham" and "Booker T. and W.E.B." He is also known for "A Poet is Not a Jukebox" and "The Profile on the Pillow." He studied library science at the University of Michigan and went on to found a publishing company called Broadside Press.
