American professional wrestler turned film and television actor who played roles in The Abbott and Costello Show, The Munsters as Strangler Murphy, and Oklahoma Crude. Before serving in the Navy for a time, he won a world light-heavyweight championship in 1941. After arriving home and continuing wrestling for a time, his acting work started to take over.
