British poet, scholar, translator, and artist. His literary works include Door in the Wall, Metamorphoses: Poetry and Translation, Cracks in the Universe, and Skywriting. He studied at Queens' College, Cambridge and later worked as a schoolteacher. He published his debut work, A Peopled Landscape, in 1963.
