Most famous for her 1979 work Black Macho and the Myth of the Superwoman, this African American feminist and author also penned articles for Ms. magazine, Newsweek, and The Village Voice. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in literature from the City College of New York and a Ph.D. in film studies from New York University. She later taught English at both universities.
