Italian poet remembered for his libretti for works of eighteenth-century opera seria. His famous libretto, Adriano in Siria, was set to music by such renowned composers as Bach, Cherubini, Pergolesi, and Caldara. He spent many a happy childhood hour giving impromptu verse performances in front of large crowds.
