Ohio State's Urban Meyer on Big Ten/SEC: 'I don't think there's a gap at all'

CHICAGO — It’s officially football season, Buckeyes fans. Moments ago, Urban Meyer addressed the media at the Hyatt Regency here in the Windy City, fulfilling his obligations for Big Ten Media Days 2017 and talking about his Ohio State team and the state of the Big Ten Conference in general.

With his usual command of the room, Meyer answered a dozen or so questions ranging from positional battles Ohio State hopes to shore up, how the team has bounced back from its devastating loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinals last season and even scheduling. When asked about the difference between the Big Ten and the SEC, where Meyer used to coach, he offered up a frank assessment.

“I don’t think there’s a gap,” Meyer said. “At all.”

And of course he was asked about Michigan.

“I think there’s a lot of respect,” Meyer said of the rivalry between Ohio State and their rivals. “But not much like.”
